How to send a wallet push notification

Send an Apple Wallet lock-screen push from WalletPush. Choose a program, a pass field (often Push_notification), write the message, then Send Now or Schedule.

Open Send a Push (/business/send-push).

A wallet push does two things: it shows a lock-screen banner on iPhone, and it refreshes the pass so the chosen field (and the rest of the pass) matches what you just wrote.

Steps

  1. Open Send a Push.
  2. Choose Send Now or Schedule.
  3. Select the program.
  4. Select the pass field to update. Use Push_notification for a back-of-pass message that is not a points or offer field. Use Current_Offer, Points, or another dynamic field when that is what you are changing.
  5. Write the message. You can include placeholders such as ${First_Name} or ${Points} — WalletPush personalizes them per member.
  6. Review how many members will receive it (devices with a push token).
  7. Optionally narrow to a segment instead of everyone in the program.
  8. Click Send Now, or pick a date, time, and timezone and schedule it.

Rules that matter

  • Only members who added the pass and have a device token get a lock-screen banner.
  • The canary test: send a new Push_notification message you have never used. The iPhone must show the new text on the lock screen and on the back of the pass. An APNs “200” in a log is not enough.
  • Google Wallet updates the card; lock-screen banners are an Apple Wallet behavior.
